Did anyone have a worse Oscar bracket than me? I got a mere 8 out of 24 picks correct! But I actually feel pretty good about the ways in which I was wrong. Here’s a run-down of my shameful failures and the silver linings I’m finding in them:
I already posted my personal picks for the major categories, irrespective of actual qualification requirements or, goodness knows, likelihood. Those can be seen by clicking here. Now it’s time to predict what will happen at the 88th Academy Awards for films from 2015. I’ll go whole hog and predict every category.
I’d like to do more Reel Rumble pieces for Flickchart that feature two current movies. It’s a good way of putting our own spin on reviews. The problem is that I’d have to see more new movies, and I prefer watching older ones. But perhaps in 2016 I’ll make an effort to do a few more like this.
The first movie I saw in this young year was the 70-mm presentation of The Hateful Eight, which ran 187 minutes. I liked the Western first half, but the grindhouse second half is silly and rapidly fritters away the emotional, intellectual, and aesthetic interest earned before intermission.
